The Principals' Leadership Academy (PLA) consists of two main components: one for
new principals and one for experienced principals. The academy supports continuing
professional development for school leaders with the goal of increasing student
achievement. PLA has reached more than 2,600 education leaders since 1991.
The Catalog of Guidelines for Academy Delivery provides additional details about
PLA and the selection of professional development sessions.
The Principals' Leadership Academy Advisory Council continues to establish innovative
methods to deliver training to experienced principals. Seasoned principals select
from a variety of sessions that meet their personal professional development needs
as well as those of their schools. During the course of a six -year period (WV Code
§ 18A-3-2c), principals are required to attend 45 hours of Academy sessions that
meet at least four of the six standards established in State Board Policy §5300.03.
