The Center works aggressively to assist beginning teachers by supporting mentors
across the state. Beginning educators may be new to the profession or state and
often need the guidance and reassurance that only a well-prepared mentor educator
can provide. The program is guided by the belief that learning to teach is
a career-long developmental cycle of planning, teaching, and reflecting.
The Center works with RESAs to train mentors throughout the state. RESA staff development
and/or county coordinators recommend individuals for the mentor coach training program.
These coaches then return to their RESAs and train mentors. This approach not only
allows for more frequent and localized mentor training.
